Physical Fitness
CAPP 60-50 Active Cadet Fitness Guide provides detailed information and instructions regarding the Civil Air Patrol physical fitness program. This is the standard per CAPR 60-1.
The Cadet Physical Fitness Test (CPFT) is based on the Presidential Youth Fitness Program Health Fitness Zone (HFZ) Standards.
Help passing the CPFT
-
Couch to 5K Plan. Use this or a similar program to increase your endurance. Once you can run 30 minutes without stopping, you'll be well on your way to dropping your mile time.
-
Use your staircase to improve pushups. This strategy gradually increases your strength while maintaining good form. It's basic physics.
Note: New cadets are only required to attempt the CPFT as a baseline for the first promotion. This attempt counts as passing the PT test for 180 days, so if advancing every 8 weeks, it could carry the new cadet through the next 2 to 3 promotions.
